NEWSFLASH: Working Holidays In Retail Makes You Cynical and Jaded and Tired!
When you get a rare, coveted three-day weekend by working six days in a row, you're too tired to enjoy it, and do little more than nap on the couch. :| I spent most of Thursday unconscious with my laptop, only coming to the surface when someone pinged me.

(And they still tried to call me in to work).

    Some work drama. )

On the flip side, there are excellent things upcoming!

    1) I am going back to school in the spring (well, spring semester, which starts January 11th. It's all pending an appeal, of course—but I am going to be optimistic and say that they'll probably accept it because they accepted a certain person who shall remain nameless after they bombed some classes and their GPA, and I didn't bomb my GPA, I dropped out for personal/medical reasons and my GPA was saved! I have one level course (The British Novel) and one freshman lit course (Intro to Lit I, which is the classical stuff, I'm probably doomed).

    2) Birthday dinner to The Melting Pot is definitely occurring! Reservations are made, birthday is in a week, and not that I'm hinting or anything but I wouldn't turn up my nose if someone wanted to write some fic with some makeouts. >.>

    3) I wrote one paragraph on Weedyverse using Write or Die. This could be a match made in heaven. 2010: The Year of Epics? Or maybe even The Year of Any Fic At All, Please Let This Be So, For Fuck's Sake

    4) Yuletide fic! I did not participate but I wrangled some tags on the periphery and there are tons of awesome stories and it is pretty rad. No lie, the Collections feature is shiny and I want it for FFEX like burning. You were a good friend, little LJ comm, but I am afraid you will be replaced come next round.

    5) FFEX is pretty much a go at this point barring some technical things we'll spend January working on (and we don't blow up). I am already thinking of prompts and how I will totally write another 20,000 word story for a rare pairing while working full time and in school and also doing tons of nerdy tag wrangling.

    ...I'm hopeless. :|

An Interesting and Heartbreaking Addition to the Debate At Hand: SEXISM!
You know what, I thought I might respond to this, but I decided I am absolutely, totally out of spoons. Instead I will post our last exchange here because I doubt it will be available much longer (it was public as of 12:22pm CST). This is how people run out of spoons, run out of energy to educate people, and it answers the question: why didn't you tell me? These are the reasons we don't tell, don't speak up, pretend we didn't see, and know in our hearts that we can lift teaspoon after teaspoon, and they'll be scooping the water back with their hands where they think we can't see.

We see too well, I'm afraid, and it's not even enough to make me mad. It just hurts my heart.

Here are some other people who have weighed in on this topic:

[personal profile] justira: Time to discuss racism and humour! aka how about them mildly infamous icons?
[personal profile] vi: Bingo in FF fandom
[info]heebee: Anyone else finding the "ironic" fried chicken and/or watermelon-themed Sazh Katzroy icons in poor taste? (the comments are a gold mine)

All of these people are rockstars for stepping up, being brave, and wielding their teaspoons. Hearts to them.

PSA to Emerging FFXIII Fans: Don't Do Racist Shit!
If these are the actions and behavior I have to look forward to from fans of Final Fantasy XIII, so help me, I am going to explode in rage on a near-daily basis. I mean, this is Racism 101 stuff. I saw enough of it with Barret with the release of Advent Children (the game itself being another story entirely) to make me want to projectile vomit—I can only imagine how totally rad it is going to be to see it happen during this iteration.

I can already see the comment threads, too, defending these things and it only makes me want to bury my face in my hands and waft woe and misery.

    (eta: Further reading.)

eta redux: a user named [personal profile] aya would also like to share hir thoughts, they are very compelling:

Clue in guys: I'm not crying, I'm contemptuous, which means the more childish you are the more I will dig my heels in. I expect more from people who should know better. You're not making a point beyond the fact that you would rather do and defend racist things than learn.
